12 Hour Shift Survey Results
I would like to thank everyone that took the time to answer the 12 hour survey. I would also like to thank all of you that took the additional time to enter comments. They will all be looked at and considered as we move forward. Clearly we have strong opinions on both sides, and I appreciate everyone’s input.
I will stress again, this was a survey to gauge the interest of the field in the possibility of having a 12 hour schedule. There is no guarantee that this will happen even if interest had been 100% in favor. I simply want to know if it will be worth the effort to look into putting a proposal together.
The results (listed below) showed a solid majority of troopers are interested in looking into the possibility. Based on that number I will move ahead with the process. Again, there is no guarantee that this will happen. I will be starting with only a few items that must be incorporated into the final schedule. The rest will be wide open.
24 hour coverage for the interstate troops has got to be there. Because of that, 10 hour shifts are not a possibility. DSP normally does not have the personnel to cover 3 shifts 365 days out of the year.
The schedule must be a fixed schedule.
If an agreement is reached with management, you will all have an opportunity to review the complete proposal to make an informed decision when you vote.
If it is implemented, and after we have all worked it, we will have a second vote to give us a chance to walk away from it and go back to the current schedule.
To be clear, this was not management's idea. It was mine. They have simply expressed that they would be interested in seeing a proposal. I will continue to post updates and give information when I can on the WLEA website. If you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to email me on my personal email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
